Redecoration brings new life

Redecoration brings new life to Trampoline House

Trampoline House has seen a lot of reconstruction since last summer, improving the space for children’s activities, socializing in the café and focused work.

It is a newer and more dynamic Trampoline House you meet when you enter the door at Thoravej 7. “My house, your house” is the motto in Trampoline House, and that has been the most important part of redecorating the house: It has made a better space for the many users of the house.

Café, Help Desk and Children’s corner

“The redecoration has definitively changed the dynamics in the house,” says Program Director Tone Olaf Nielsen. “In the café area, you can hang out, work and it’s much easier to eat now,” she explains. In the café, you will also find Help Desk, where you can get help if you have any questions about Trampoline House and its activities.

Besides new offices for the interns and employees of Trampoline House, a special play area has also been built for the Children’s Club. “The house is a bit calmer now that the children have their own space to play,” Tone says.

An eclectic interior style

Even though, there have been many improvements to Trampoline House, it is important that it does not become too perfect. Tone explains why: “When you come to the country as a refugee, you often mistrust perfect rooms. Ministries and asylum centers have perfect rooms. We, on the other hand, have an eclectic style of interior design: We have benches from Harald Nyborg, a couple of sofas that were donated by an Iranian translator and a handful of tables from a trendy café. In Trampoline House, you need to feel at home and be able to do your own repairs or changes, just as you would in your own home.”

Everyone pitches in

The redecoration has been a team effort: “Many people have helped us do the changes”, Tone says. “Our intern Omar has put up pictures, Marian has help with electricity and lamps, and Rashid has donated his time to building the Children’s Corner. That is the amazing part about Trampoline House; Everyone helps somehow. It creates trust”, Tone says.

You can help

Since the redecoration, the Children’s Club has gotten its own room, making space for a safe and structured environment for the children. Photo: Viktoria Steinhart

There is, however, still a need for changes at Trampoline House, Tone notes: “We need a new sink in one of the kitchens, so we could really use donations for that.”

According to Sara Ipsen, Trampoline House’s Children’s Club Coordinator, the children also need toys to play with. “Many of the toys we have are old and worn out. We would really appreciate new toys, so the children could learn to respect the value of things. That could, for instance, be something like Lego, or Danish board games for the children to develop their language. Yes, some toys would be wonderful,” Sara says.

“Lastly, Trampoline House still needs to be painted here and there, so if you would like to help or know a good painter, we would really appreciate the help”, Tone says.

Ways to help

We still need help or donations for the following:

  • A new kitchen sink

  • Lamps

  • A mattress and bean bag chairs

  • New or well-maintained toys

  • A painter

Trampoline House’s many activities are possible thanks to donations from almost 300 individuals, who each donate between 50 and 500 kr. every month. If you, your partner or your mother is also able to support our work with a recurring donation, it would really make a great difference to our work.
