What do poetry and peacebuilding have in common?
Oxfam IBIS and Trampoline House are organizing a discussion with activists and refugees working on peacebuilding in South Sudan and Uganda to share stories and poems from everyday life amidst the ongoing conflict.
Through their powerful testimonies, the activists will share their history and lived experiences, about their involvement in political and peace building processes, and their work at national and grassroots levels. The event will also demonstrate how storytelling can be a rich source of mediation and healing and give the audience unique insights into everyday situations of resilience, resistance and peacebuilding.
During the event, we will also hear more from Oxfam regarding recent research looking at the way women have been engaged in and influenced peacemaking processes in South Sudan. Through the debate, it is also hoped that these accounts will provide a space for nuancing the understanding of a conflict which has been on the Danish radar for many years.
Speakers:
• Elisabeth Deng, Rights in Crisis advocacy advisor
• Hilda Twongyeirwe, Director of FEMRITE (Ugandan Women’s Writing Association)
• Stephen Wandu Bimo, I CAN South Sudan
• Kiden Sawala Laki Lukudu, Program Manager, EVE Organization for Women
