Art gallery guide workshop for refugees

Trampoline House's art gallery CAMP launches a new art gallery guide program in September 2017 for refugees and asylum seekers, who would like to become part of CAMP’s guide team and do guided tours in CAMP's exhibitions about migration.

The program offers 8-week long workshops in the spring and in the fall. The first workshop runs from September 15 – November 10, 2017. It will prepare refugee participants for their role as art guides in CAMP's upcoming exhibition in January 2018 and actively involve them in preparing a script for the guided tours. Additionally, it aims to encourage the participants to engage in discussions and debates about contemporary art and broader social and political issues to enable them to participate in public debate and make their voices heard.

During the workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Describe and analyze an artwork
  • Speak confidently in front of an audience
  • Prepare a guided tour for CAMP’s next exhibition
  • Use your expert knowledge about flight and migration to put the artworks into perspective
  • Think critically about who is included in official art history and why the art world is still dominated by white artists
  • Be part of a broader political discussion

Workshop program:

  • Introduction meeting: Friday, September 15, 1 pm
  • Every Wednesday: Excursions to art galleries and museums
  • Every Friday: Discussion and practice meetings in CAMP’s exhibition space in Trampoline House
  • Mid-November: Show what you have learned by presenting an artwork of your choice and get a CAMP art gallery guide diploma!

TIME: September 15 – November 10, 2017, every Wednesday and Friday from 1–4 pm.

LOCATION: CAMP’s exhibition space in Trampoline House, different museums in Copenhagen

All your transport costs will be covered by CAMP!
